The letter below was written by Lauren Penne and myself. Our characters are imaginary creations of Havisham's lover and the woman he jilted her for and so we have tried to make this letter cruel and extremely unsatisfactory for a jilted lover to read. We found a lot of inspiration from real love letters. This letter is a recurring part of the script now.
My Dear Lady Havisham
When you read this letter you will have realised I have not attended our planned wedding this morning. I am writing you this letter to explain my absence from this most important day. I realise it will break your heart to hear this but I am no longer willing or able to marry you. Today is the worst day of all to be leaving you, but if I were to not do it today, I may not be able to do it at all. This will come to you as a shock and you will understandably be heartbroken, hurt and angry; but I hope that with the passing of time you may one day find it in your heart to forgive me.
Perhaps we are both victims of circumstances beyond our control. I am victim to falling in love, it is my curse to bare.
You will always remain in my heart and I hope I will remain in yours. I have left today and I believe our paths will never cross again. It is painful to say goodbye but even more painful to stay. I love you so much it hurts, but for the reasons above I must go away.
Always and forever in your mind and soul
Your loving friend
